Confidence Boosting Beauty Tips | A Guest Post By Amy Goldsmith

We all have those days where we get up, check our reflection in the mirror, and think “Ugh, I want to go back to bed.” Sometimes we feel down for longer than one day, so we tend to sit at home with our gloomy mood, nursing the huge zit on our forehead and wonder why the gods have decided to curse us. It happens to everyone and it’s really okay to take time off to just lounge at home occasionally, but you don’t want it to turn into a habit. Developing a beauty routine that will give you a mood lift and make you feel cute and glamorous can be downright therapeutic, so don’t hesitate to simply do things that make you feel good. Playing around with your skincare and makeup really makes a girl feel pampered, so here are a few tips to give you a nice, hefty boost to confidence, because not having confidence sucks and you deserve better than to be sad.

Exfoliate

Dull, grey skin with a bunch of dry patches, or excessive oil is hardly a fun thing to wake up to in the morning. Don’t be the kind of person that lets gloopy dirt pile up on their face, as it’ll just make your skin look weirdly textured and uneven. Exfoliation is important if you want smooth skin, just make sure not to use any harsh exfoliants, especially if your skin is sensitive. Do a facial and body scrub once a week, then slather on some moisturizer and you’ll instantly feel sexier because your skin will be super soft.

Have a spa day

Have a big, stressful event coming up? Do a spa day at home. There’s nothing like luxuriating in the bath for at least half an hour as your muscles relax and your worries melt away. Go all in and spread candles around, pour a glass of wine or a beverage of your choice if you're not of the legal age, and just create an atmosphere that makes you feel like a luscious goddess. Put on a facial mask, put oils in your hair, and just really take time to take care of your body.

Play with makeup

A lot of ladies use makeup just to cover up imperfections, but that’s such a shame because there’s so much more to it than that. Makeup is fun and colourful, it’s creative, it’s a form of expression that can be subtle or full on glam – whatever you’re in the mood for. Don’t just use it to hide, use it to show off, to highlight your favourite features. Take the brushes and use them as tools to create art, to paint a picture. Of course, make sure to keep those brushes clean, as you really don’t want any bacteria there to make you break out, and products like the Osmosis brush cleaner can make sure it’s all well sanitized. Don’t worry if you aren’t good at applying it, just take your time and practice. You don’t have to put makeup on only when you’re going out. You can simply play with it when you’re at home, watching your favourite show or listening to music. That winged eyeliner will come to you girl, don’t worry.

Visit a hairstylist

Nothing like a good haircut to make you keep taking cute selfies. If your hair has been feeling a little dull lately, schedule an appointment and have someone transform an old, flat look into something fun and sassy. In case you don’t want to cut anything, go to a colourist. From buttery blonde and toffee colours to something bold like holographic hair – you can be as daring as you like.

Wear perfume

How attractive can you feel if you smell like peaches and cream, or jasmine, or lemongrass, or any of the other fresh, summery scents? Nice scents have the power to bring up memories, make us feel light, and invoke the feeling of happiness, so a spritz of your favourite perfume is an easy way to feel beautiful in an instant.
Our beauty routines are more than just an exercise in vanity. These rituals are empowering and they can soothe us even when we feel terrible. You’re beautiful even without them, and you don’t need to rely on them to look or feel good, but they can remind you of your own allure, of your own amazing self. So, pick a pretty outfit, give a bright smile, and sashay down the street like it’s a catwalk.
