5 Songs That Defined My Childhood | October Guest Post Month

I am a big music fan, and like to think that I have a great music taste (I do.) I love a lot of different music, but I tend to shy away from chart music now, even though I used to like it. I am definitely a bit of a music snob, but everyone can listen to whatever they want!

I grew up with a mum who loved a bit of take that. I liked them for a while as well, (I was young), but my dad listened to the complete opposite. Bands like the Artic Monkeys ,and The Undertones, just to name a few. So, I had quite different music influences...

1. Teenage Kicks – The Undertones

This is a song that my dad, and I would always listen to in the car, and because of this it is one of my all-time favourite songs. I will always love this song. It has actually been covered a lot on YouTube, but you will never beat The Undertones. This song brings me memories of being really young, and singing along in the car.

2. 5 Colours In Her Hair – McFly

This song was released when I was five years old,and I instantly loved it. In fact, it quickly became my favourite song. I just loved Danny Jones, and his straightened hair! Mcfly are my childhood. I grew up listening to them, and I still love them a lot.

3. Star Girl - McFly

Another Mcfly song - I’m sorry! I always loved this song though. It was one of McFly’s more pop kinda songs, but I loved it. Chris Moyles used to play it every Friday when he hosted the breakfast show on Radio One, which just grew my love for this song even more. My love for the band never died.

4. Never Forget –Take That

This is one of my mum’s favourite songs that we would listen to. I actually still quite like this song for some reason, but I think it’s because it is just a classic, and reminds me of my mum to be honest. I can't say I love Take That, but this song is great (ask your mum.)

5. Mr Brightside- The Killers

McFly first introduced me to this song not long after it was released by The Killers. If you can’t tell, I spent my childhood obsessing over McFly. My dad was actually pretty thrilled about this ,because they were a band who played instruments. The Killers are incredible, and this is a great song.

So, as you can see I loved music as a child and still do. My songs that defined my childhood are quite the mix! I have hugely varied music taste, and I am not actually a big fan of chart music (as you can see!). A lot of the music I listen to is not in the charts, but I usually listen to all sorts of music.
