Things I'm Grateful For

In today's generation, we take for granted just how lucky we really are. We get so many opportunities on an everyday basis, and for some people, they just click their fingers, and their loved ones give them whatever they want. There are some people like this who don't even appreciate what they receive. They just expect all of their wishes, and dreams to be handed to them on a silver platter. Everyone deserves presents if it's a special occasion, or if they have done particularly well in something, or even just as a surprise - but some people just take gifts for granted, and they don't show any gratitude whatsoever. It's the little things in life that matter the most anyway. Not everyone can have a brand new BMW, and the latest Chanel handbag. Money doesn't grow on trees. And that's okay. We should all start appreciating the things, and people that we do have, rather than focusing on the materialistic desires that are constantly in our mind. I think that this post is coming at the perfect time, because it's getting really close to Christmas now, and there are some people that don't even have a roof over their head, let alone lavish presents that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. That's why today I thought I'd share with you the things that I'm most grateful for. They don't cost any money, but they allow me to lead a very happy life, and they make me feel very lucky, and honoured to have them.

1. A warm bed - This probably sounds like quite a cliché to start off with, but I seriously wouldn't be anywhere near as mentally stable if I didn't have my bed in my life. I think I'd have lost the plot a long time ago if I didn't have somewhere to go to collect my thoughts, and calm myself down when I'm feeling under the weather, or as if I've fizzled out. Nothing can beat the comfort of your own bed - that's just a given. Whenever I'm feeling ill, or as if I'm in need of some proper relaxation time, then I light a candle, pop the TV on, or some YouTube, and I just chill out under the covers, and my super soft blanket. Sometimes having the option to relax on your own can really help with your state of mind, and it can improve your mood a lot too. I never used to like being in my room, but since things have been shifted around a little bit, and my bed is now in the corner, I feel like it's a lot cosier, and I actually am in it more often than not. Some people don't even have a bed, and I think that I should be more appreciative of the fact that not only do I have my own, clean, cosy bed, but I also have a whole bedroom to myself, and I really do think that having your own space can make the world of difference in so many ways.

2. Being surrounded by my loved ones - I'm very lucky in the sense that I'm surrounded by some amazing people, who inspire me, and bring a smile to my face everyday. I may not have the biggest family, and I may not be the most popular girl in my school, but I have a group of incredible people in my life, and I am so deeply grateful for everything that they do. Whenever I'm in need of comfort, or support, I know that I'm not alone, and I know that I will be able to receive that off of someone who's in my life. All of my loved ones do so, so much for me, and I am constantly trying to repay them, but I don't feel that anything I do will ever amount to what they do for me. I know that I can often take people for granted, but I don't ever mean to, and I know that if I were to ever lose anyone that's precious to me, I would be absolutely heartbroken, because they all mean the world to me, and they all have an influence on who I am as an individual.

3. The little things in life - There are so many little pleasures in life that every single one of us is bound to take for granted. A sunset/sunrise, a refreshing swim in the sea, a walk on the beach with our loved ones, the feeling of having a well-deserved lay in - the list is literally endless. I think that we should all make much more of a conscious effort to make a list of all the things that we are grateful for, or that make us smile within each day. You will be surprised at how many things you can find. Why don't you write a text message of appreciation to your mum for taking the time to make sure you have a lovely, home-cooked meal? Why don't you go, and meet up with an old friend, and reminisce on all the happy times from your childhood? It really is all about the little things. I can't stress that enough. Show the world some appreciation, and don't take the natural beauty's for granted.

4. The kindness of people I haven't met before - I often am taken aback by the kindness of people that I haven't even met before. Quite often, I will message people, simply because I feel that they deserve whatever compliment I'm going to give them, and I will literally be left in awe by their response. Sometimes, it can feel like the people that you're surrounded with at school, or at work are only there to pass rude remarks, or to put you down at whatever chance they get. Then you can have a brief encounter with someone who lives an hour, or more away from you, and you can literally just click. I'm so lucky to have met some lovely, kind people through the internet, and whenever I feel like nobody else understands me, or like I just need a rant, I will message one of them, or even just message someone I've never spoken to before if they seem down, and we will just have a really deep, meaningful conversation. If I know that someone is feeling down, then I want to be able to take the opportunity to try, and make them feel better, in case nobody else has bothered that day. The same goes for if I'm feeling down. Usually, the people who end up making me feel better actually tell me that they feel better knowing they have helped me, and that way, the compliments just keep flowing between us, and we build up such a lovely connection that can be carried on through future conversations.

5. The struggles that I've dealt with in the past - This may sound like quite a weird one, but don't worry, I'm gonna explain it. I have been through quite a lot in the past, and not all of it was pretty. I'm not going to dwell on it in this post, because now isn't the time for it, but it's been a pretty rough ride to get to where I am now. Although things haven't always been the best, I'm glad that I've had to deal with the struggles that have I have previously come across in the past. If I hadn't have gone through them, I probably wouldn't be where I am now, and I certainly wouldn't have gained the strength that I have now built up. I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason, and all of the negative, nasty stuff that has happened before doesn't even matter anymore. What matters now is focusing on the present, and looking towards the future. You can't change the past, but you can be grateful, and appreciative of the lessons that it taught you, and you can use these lessons to help shape your future, and help those who may be going through what you went through back then.

6. Everything in relation to Christmas - If I had to pick an absolute favourite time of the year, it would be Christmas. I literally spend the whole year getting excited all over again, and by the beginning of November, I'm well, and truly in the festive spirit. I had bought, and wrapped all of the presents I am planning to give to my friends in the middle of November, and so I knew that this year I was going to be well, and truly prepared. There's just something about Christmas that genuinely does make it the most magical time of the year. I've already expressed my thoughts on the importance of your loved ones, but I'm going to be emphasising it again. Family, and friends are literally the most important thing in an individual's life. Who we surround ourselves with really does determine a lot, and these people can stick with us throughout our entire journey on this Earth. I think that appreciation of our loved ones is particularly important during the Christmassy time of year, because so many people are alone, and so many people have to go without gifts, year after year. I really enjoy spending time, and money on the people that mean the most to me, because I feel like after everything they have done for me throughout that year, they really do deserve it, and it's just something nice to do, right? I always put a lot of thought into everything that I purchase, and even though I'm hideous at wrapping (I am at the moment, but I'm working on it!), I love giving the gifts to people, and finding out what they think, even though it's slightly nerve-wracking too. I'm not going to lie, I do also love receiving gifts. Not in a spoilt way at all, because of course I never expect anything, but I really appreciate the thought that goes behind the gifts, and I feel really special knowing that I'm appreciated, and loved. I mean, who doesn't? I also really enjoy spending proper, quality time with my loved ones around Christmas though. It's such a loving time, and it really warms my heart to be in the company of those that I love the most. I just think it's really important that we don't take it for granted, ever.

I really hope you liked this post! Let me know what you think. What are the things that you are the most grateful for? Post a comment below, and tell me what you think!

Lots of love,
