Recovery | Interview With Gabby

Hi everyone! I recently interviewed my friend Gabby, as part of my 'Recovery' series, and so I thought I'd share the interview with you guys! I hope you find it helps some of you :)

Jade: Hi Gabby! What is it that you are struggling with at the moment then?

Gabby: Well, I have just come out of a phase of deep sadness, and depression, but at the time, I didn't realise that it was that, and I lost a lot from it. I now sometimes get dips, usually at night, and I get very worried and scared that it will happen again.

Jade: That must be very hard to deal with. Do you have any ideas of what may have triggered these feelings?

Gabby: I think it was a mix of things really. I didn't have many friends at school and generally I didn't think life was worth living at the worst of times.

Jade: How do you feel now in comparison to how you felt during that down stage?

Gabby: Well, then I had an urge to cut and also I thought about what would happen if I took my life. Now I don't feel like cutting anymore and I look forward to things in the future. whether it's the near future, or my life when I'm an adult

Jade: Wow! You have come ever such a long way then! Well done for being so strong. How have things changed? Why do you think that you don't want to cut anymore?

Gabby: My friends started to tell me out of the blue that they don't want to be friends with me anymore because I was effecting them too much. I was angry at the time, but I understand where they were coming from. I then worked SO hard to try and overcome it. I was being more positive and started making friends with everyone. I saw the good things in life and now that is my mind-set. I naturally see the good and look forward to the days ahead, so now I don't see the need to harm anymore. As I say "my body is a temple"!

Jade: That's wonderful. Your story is incredibly inspirational, Gabby. What are you hoping to achieve in the near future? Do you have any goals to improve yourself and your mind-set even more?

Gabby: Well, I am massively improving my body by being fit and healthy. I enjoy working out and going for runs and that keeps me happy and helps to clear my head. I also keep a positive thought in my head as soon as I wake up and I want to continue doing that. I want to start letting go of small things more often and control my anger, so I don't get upset and therefore, I will become a happier, stress free person!

Jade: You have certainly come incredibly far on your journey. Very well done to you Gabby! Who, or what would you say has had the biggest influence on you?

Gabby: Thank you! I really appreciate it. Well, one friend from school has been there for me, listened and helped me through everything and also my nan. Even though she doesn't know about what has been happening, her kindness and love never fails to make me happy and she is my inspiration! These stories you hear about worse things that have happened to people and how they have overcome it has made me think that there is always someone worse of than you, and if they can do it, then so can you!

Lots of love,

Jade
